omemade wax for hair removal is prepared mainly with refined sugar and lemon, however it can also be prepared with honey or passion fruit, for example, which helps to leave the skin less irritated.
A good tip to facilitate waxing and make it less painful is to apply a little powder before waxing, since the powder prevents the wax from adhering too much to the skin, and only remains on the hairs, reducing pain and irritation.
How to make homemade wax:
1. Sugar and lemon
4 cups white refined sugar
150 mL of pure lemon juice
3 tablespoons of water
- Place the sugar and tablespoons of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture and gradually add the lemon juice until the sugar begins to melt. The wax is ready once it has a caramel-colored appearance, without making it too runny.
- The amount of lemon juice that must be added to the mixture will depend on the humidity of the air or the heat of the environment, so it is important to add it little by little and check the consistency of the wax. If you add a lot of juice, the wax may be very liquid and, on the contrary, if you add a little juice, the caramel can be very thick, making it difficult to use the wax.
- To know if the wax is at the correct point, you need to put 1 teaspoon of the wax on a plate and wait for it to cool. Then check with the index finger and thumb (in the form of a tweezers) if the wax is stretched enough, this means that it is in the correct point. In case it still doesn't stretch enough, keep stirring it over low heat for a few more minutes until it reaches the correct point.
- Once it is ready, the wax must be allowed to rest for a few minutes to be able to pack it. When it cools it will solidify, so whenever you want to use it you can heat it in the microwave.
To depilate with the sugar and lemon wax at home, apply a thin layer of the warm wax in the direction in which the hair comes out using a spatula or a trowel, then attach the waxing paper and then remove to the side contrary to hair growth.
To remove traces of wax that may remain on the skin, you can try to remove them with waxing paper or wash your skin with water. As this wax contains lemon, it is important that after waxing the region is washed very well with soap and water, since the lemon exposed to the sun can stain the skin.
