Haven’t we seen our grandmothers and mothers raving about the benefits of facial steaming, but is it as effective? Several people believe it’s a good solution for all kinds of skin problems. Moreover, it is claimed to help people with all skin types— be it oily, dry or combination skin. Is it true?
Facial steaming helps to open up your pores, and removes all the dirt and grime, making way for clear skin. The vapours also stimulate the blood vessels for enhanced circulation to help you get a perfect glow, while keeping signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles at bay!
But, there’s one huge concern: it involves applying a considerable amount of heat to your skin. If not done the right way, it can prove to be disastrous. Also, if you already suffer from irritable skin, then facial steaming is a terrible idea!
Dr. Kiran Sethi, a renowned skin specialist from Delhi says:
Is facial steaming beneficial for your skin?
“Steaming is effective only for skin that has blackheads and whiteheads. The heat helps to open up pores, and that makes it easier to remove them without any obstruction,” she shares.
Blackheads and whiteheads are fairly common skin issues that are triggered due to the clogging of pores due to the build-up of dirt, dead skin cells, or bacteria. It is often difficult to remove them, and that’s where steaming helps. Some people try to pop them by pinching or prodding the skin, but steer clear of that!
Dr. Sethi advises that you steam your face once a week, but only for a few minutes to get the best results.
