Ayurvedic practice teaches that each person is bodily the combination of three doshas or principles: vata, pitta and kapha. Of the three, generally one or two are dominant, and illnesses occur when the doshas are out of balance.
THE DOSHAS: VATA, PITTA AND KAPHA
From the perspective of Ayurveda, things are observed under the parameters of vata, pitta, kapha, and their combinations; the whole world comes to life in a new way. Doshas take shape in endlessly interesting ways.
- VATA Composed of air and space, vata is dry, light, cold, harsh, subtle / penetrating, mobile, and clear. As such, it regulates the principle of movement. Any body movement: chewing, swallowing, nerve impulses, breathing, muscle movements, thinking, peristalsis, bowel movements, urination, menstruation, etc.
- PITA Pitta produces the qualities of fire and water. It's sharp, penetrating, hot, light, flowing, mobile, and oily. Pitta's main domain is that of transformation. In the same way that fire transforms anything it touches, Pitta is at stake every time the body converts or processes something. Thus, Pitta supervises: digestion, metabolism, maintenance of temperature, sensory perception and understanding.
- KAPHA Kapha, composed of earth and water, is heavy, cold, opaque, oily, smooth, dense, soft, static, fluid, gaseous, dense and thick. Kapha governs stability and structure, forms the substance of the human body, that of the skeleton, and that of the fat molecules (lipids) of various organs that support the body.
This "science of life" is actually a series of habits that integrate mental and physical aspects to live longer and better.
However, Ayurveda can benefit anyone, both the healthy and the sick. Its principles are easy to follow, specifically focusing on the following basic and simple routines. Practicing it will bring you excellent benefits without negatively altering your health:
- Healthy food.
- Physical exercise.
- Thought. positive.
According to this Hindu theory, it is not necessary to kill living things to eat, but in reality, Ayurveda does not prohibit any food. The ideal is to adopt a vegetarian or low-animal protein diet, but you can eat everything, as long as it is in moderation and maintaining a balance of all the necessary nutrients.
To keep your mind clear and your body agile, you need to exercise regularly. Ayurveda recommends yoga, because it can be done at any age and it is not an aggressive sport.
Negative thoughts and worries can trigger anxiety or depression, among other ailments. That is why we must reserve a few minutes a day to reflect on our qualities, which we can always enhance. We can achieve this by doing meditation exercises that help us stay calm.
