Follow this simple tips and master your meditation skills

If you, like many others, are trying to ace meditation for beginners, but are struggling—here’s what you need to do!

We live in a fast-paced world which is characterised by constantly juggling multiple things at the same time. Catering to work, family, friends, and romantic relationships leave us with no time to think or rest. In fact, we tend to operate like a machine all day long. When we finally do sit down to unwind at the end of the day, our mind finds it practically impossible to shut down. This eventually gives rise to feelings of restlessness, and in most cases, leads to sleeplessness.

Truth be told, all these problems can be tackled with one simple solution: meditation. The thing with meditation is that, unlike popular perception, it is not about fixing feelings but being comfortable with them.

We’re already aware of the wonders of mediation but most of us find it extremely tough to keep our mind still.  Rest assured, it’s no rocket science at all! All you need is some time and practice because meditation for beginners isn’t as tough as it’s made out to be.

You see, you will have to master your mind. We’re here with some tips that will make meditation more meaningful to you.

Try out these 5 things to improve your mediation practices:

1. You can start with small goals, but begin somewhere

Mastering meditation is an exciting pursuit but you can’t expect it to show results right from the beginning. Being ambitious is great, but having a ton of expectations is only going to disappoint you. So, try and start meditating for a few minutes, then gradually increase the time. Avoid feeling guilty if you’re not able to spend too long meditating. Remember that you have to meditate regularly because you will only get better with practice.

2. Don’t wait for the perfect time to meditate

You might think that you should meditate at night after finishing all your tasks but that isn’t exactly a good strategy. This is because you might never find the perfect time to do it. Instead, integrate it into your daily life. Do it when you take a short break from work during the day, or maybe the first in the morning. If you think you can make it a nighttime ritual, then there’s no harm in doing that. Just don’t wait for it to happen to you!

3. Don’t have unrealistic expectations

Let’s say you’ve tried meditating every day this week but haven’t managed to do so. This shouldn’t serve as a reason to give up on mediating entirely. It is the consistency that matters. We live in times of instant gratification which is why we feel everything must show instant results. Well, ladies, that’s not the case with meditation. Unlike what the internet tells you, meditation is not life-changing from the very beginning, but once it starts showing its effects, there’s no way you’d be giving up on it. So, keep practising and you will see the magic unfold!

4. Carefully design your environment

We might not really admit to this, but we are highly influenced by our environment and the people around us. So, talking about meditation with a friend who has been practising for some time may prove to be motivating, or even watching a TED talk on the subject is a good idea. You can also spark your interest in meditation by reading books on mindfulness.

5. Try out guided meditation

When you start meditating, it might not be easy for you to do it without guidance. Thankfully, it’s the golden age of the internet, and there are a million videos on YouTube to help you out. These guided meditation sessions are short and easy to follow. So, instead of just sitting and struggling to meditate, you literally have a mentor telling you what to do, step by step. All you have to do is focus on your breathing!

Ladies, give meditation some time to work and you won’t regret it!
